The first principle of HTML design is to convey information to the reader about some topic. The composer of the web page might be writing about their political opinions, writing a story, advertising a product, offering their advice, giving a tutorial on a "how-to-do-something" subject, their favorite recipes for cooking, a how-to page on how to write an HTML web page, or whatever the "topic of discourse" happens to be. HTML is just simple code.  There are to hyperlinks, sound, video, or graphics, just plain old words.

Designing a site is crucial! In business, if you don't have an attractive layout which appeals to your current and potential customers, you are likely to turn them away.  They might leave in search of something easier on the eye for reading or a less busy site (not so much graphics flashing at them).

What you convey to your current and potential customers is extremely important, but the way in which the words are laid out are just as important when creating a website.  If you have a loud color in the background (such as red), it does not matter what color the text is or how it is laid out.  Your eyes will start hurting before you can read a complete sentence.

When designing a webpage remember, plain HTML loads quickly and accurately in all browsers.  There are no plug-ins, pictures, or flash movies to slow it down. It is ideal for standard websites that have not need for special multimedia such as:

  • Audio
  • Video
  • Flash

The great advantage of a plain HTML web page is it’s size is small, it loads fast and is compatible with all browsers.
